The AABS invites applications for Short-Term Study or Research Grants for up to eight weeks of study in the United States with a maximum stipend of $5,000.
Proposals in the Humanities and Social Sciences will be considered and evaluated according to the scholarly potential of the applicant and the quality and scholarly importance of the proposed work. Applicants are expected to either be in the final stages of their doctoral program, or to have gained their doctoral degree after 1 January 2005. While the proposals do not necessarily have to relate to some aspect of Baltic Studies, preference will be given to Baltic Studies topics. The grants are funded from a bequest in memory of Dr. Mudīte I. Zīlīte Saltups. Dr. Saltups’ will provides that recipients of a fellowship must be citizens of the Republic of Latvia, speak Latvian, have their permanent residence in Latvia, and come to the United States to study.
Applications are to be submitted electronically to Dr Daunis Auers, Vice-President of Professional Development, at auers@lu.lv
The deadline for 2010 fellowships is 15 December 2009.
