Research Interests

Dr. George's research interests focus on the role that alcohol plays in social behavior. This work emphasizes the view that alcohol expectancy theory and alcohol myopia theory both play important roles in accounting for post-drinking disinhibition. Dr. George, along with his colleagues and students, conduct analogue experiments examining the effects of alcohol and alcohol expectancies on perceptions and behaviors related to sexuality and violence. Typically, these experiments involve questionnaire assessment of expectancies, administration of alcohol, and presentation of sexual and/or violent stimuli. Dr. George is also interested in how cultural factors and racial stereotypes interact with the above topics. Finally, Dr. George is interested in multicultural competence in psychological service delivery.
