The Association of Chinese and Comparative Literature (ACCL)

Biennial Conference

The conference’s theme: “Literature, Media, and the Environment”
In addition, ACCL welcomes all papers on cross-cultural topics

Papers may be presented in English or Chinese

 

 

The ACCL conference of 2007 will be hosted by the School of Literature and Journalism of Sichuan University, in the city of Chengdu, under the auspices of Professor Cao Shunqing.

 

The ACCL biennial conference aims at fostering dialogue among Chinese Literary Studies and Comparative Literature. ACCL welcomes the participation of China specialists and all other scholars.

 

Conference theme

In view of the growing concern for the global environment, and in recognition of the potential contribution of literature, the media, and scholarship to raising public consciousness on the subject, this year’s conference welcomes especially papers on the theme “literature, media and the environment.” The conference will be held in Sichuan, one of the world’s most interesting places for biodiversity and cultural diversity.

 

Suggested topics include literary and cinematic explorations of:

-         Cultural and natural diversity

-         Natural and man-made disasters

-         Urban conservation and natural preservation

-         Urbanization and social change

-         Nature and human intervention in premodern fiction and poetry

-         Global and Chinese perspectives on the environment

-         How can environmental literature be comparative?

 

Submission of proposals and deadlines

Proposals can be submitted individually or as a joint panel of three to four papers. For each paper, please submit an abstract no longer than 300 English words or 700 Chinese characters.

 

Proposals should be received by February 26, 2007. Acceptance letters will be sent by March 1. Presenters will be asked to confirm their participation by March 30.

Costs:

ACCL does not charge membership fees. Conference registration fees are 200-400 RMB.

Incidental costs include lodging and travel to and in Sichuan.
