CAB Meeting Information:

Please mark your calendars for the next UW ACTU Community Advisory Board (CAB) meeting for Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 5:30 PM at a new location, the ACTU conference room at the far end of the 2 West Clinic at Harborview Medical Center. There is plenty of parking available that time of day in the view park garage and we will reimburse you if you need for parking. Dr. Collier will be reviewing significant results of an important ACTG study which will be presented in August at the World AIDS Conference in Mexico City as well as a symposium on bone disease and HIV that was held at the last annual ACTG meeting.

The University of Washington Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Unit's mission is to:

  • Conduct clinical research in order to answer questions about how HIV works and affects the immune system
  • Study the natural history of HIV/AIDS and its associated complications over time
  • Help develop new treatments for HIV/AIDS
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of treatments already available for both short term and long term use
  • Educate communities in the Northwest about the need for clinical trials in all populations
  • Provide equal access to all those who wish to participate, including minorities, women and injection drug users
Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA):
The University of Washington AIDS Clinical Trial Unit believes that all research should be conducted ethically, with a focus on the safety and the rights of our patients.
There are new federal rules that affect the use and privacy of health information. These rules are called the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The UW Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Unit follows the HIPAA rules, as well as State of Washington rules about health information and privacy. We are committed to protecting the confidentiality of our study volunteers. One of the HIPAA rules is that web sites which involve health information need to display a copy of the HIPAA authorization form that they use. The document that follows is the template of the HIPAA authorization form that is used for studies done at the UW Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Unit.
