In February 2005 Dr. John Neumaier was named an Associate Director of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute and will oversee the ADAI Small Grants Program. Prior to that, he had served as a reviewer for the Small Grants program for serveral years.

Dr. Neumaier is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and head of the Division of Neurosciences within that department. He studied biology at Reed College in Portland, and received his medical and graduate training at the University of Washington. Dr. Neumaier directs the Molecular Neurosciences laboratory in the Harborview Research and Training Building, where his research focuses on the regulation of serotonin receptors in rat brain in animal models of psychiatric illness.
