Polarized opinions commonly influence the debate about cannabis policy: "cannabis is harmful and therefore should be prohibited" or "cannabis is harmless and therefore should be legalized." Professor Hall discussed cannabis policy in Australia and internationally, with an emphasis on identifying a way forward in the shaping of laws concerning this drug.

Dr. Wayne Hall is Professor and Executive Director, National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. He has published widely in the substance abuse field and serves as a member of the World Health Organization's Expert Committee on Drug Dependence.

This lecture was presented at no charge for University of Washington researchers, students, and community members interested in drug policy.
