Cowlitz County, Washington
Cowlitz County is an area of fertile bottom lands and forested Coast and Cascade Range country in southwestern Washington. The name was adopted from the Indian Cow e liskee or Cow e liske, meaning river of shifting sands. The area was established as Cowlitz County by the Washington Territorial Legislature on April 22, 1854.
