Douglas County is located in north central
Washington in a dry region generally termed "the Big Bend Country."
It was named after Stephen A. Douglas, U.S. Senator and political leader
of Illinois. On November 23, 1883, what is now Douglas and Grant Counties
was created by the Territorial Legislature as Douglas County.
