Skagit County, a land of Puget Sound islands,
reclaimed tidal lands, wide valleys, and forested Cascade Mountains,
is located in northwestern Washington. The Washington Territorial Legislature
created Skagit County on November 28, 1883. It was named after its most
important geographic feature, the waterway and the wide, fertile valley
of the Skagit River.
