Where
Is It?
The STD clinic is located at Harborview Medical Center (325 Ninth Avenue, Seattle) on the ground floor in the East
Clinic wing. It is the last clinic on the right when walking
south from the central elevators. Please check in at the front desk of the STD clinic to let Dr. Shafii know that you have arrived.
Who
is my contact person?
You will be working with Dr. Taraneh
Shafii.
What
time do I need to be there?
Clinic runs from 1:30-5:00 pm.
Where do I park?
Parking is available in the garage for a fee or you can try to find parking on the street around the hospital (or follow 9th down the hill just south of Harborview and try Yessler). You can also take a shuttle from the UW to HMC. View the shuttle schedule.

Instructions:
The STD clinic at Harborview is run by Public Health - Seattle
& King County and mainly serves underserved and high risk
populations - approximately 10% of patients seen in the STD clinic
are teenagers. The clinic population offers a rich experience
for residents in the practice of taking a sexual history, performing
male and female genital exams, and diagnosing and managing sexually
transmitted diseases.
Yesler Community Outreach Project
“Ask the Doctor”
Injury Free Coalition for Kids - Seattle
You will meet with Dr. Shafii at 7:45am the first Wednesday of the month to discuss this project. You will be involved with some aspect of it, whether research, creating the handout, or presentation.
Educational Objectives:
1. Become proficient in an adolescent medicine health topic.
2. Develop/practice skills teaching medical topic to youth.
3. Provide service/outreach to an underserved community.
4. Increase knowledge and awareness of health issues in underserved adolescents.
Yesler Community Center serves the community adjacent to Harborview Medical Center in the Central District.
Outreach Project:
1. Design a 15-minute presentation on a health topic interesting to adolescents to be delivered to a small group (approx 10) of adolescents (ages 9 – 15 yrs old).
2. Create a one-page handout on the topic suitable for adolescents.
3. E-mail a copy of your presentation and handout to Dr. Taraneh Shafii 1 week before presentation date.
4. Deliver the presentation to youth at Yesler CC, conduct Q&A on health topics for youth; accompanied by faculty.
