| Taraneh Shafii MD MPH , is Acting Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She is a member in the Section of Adolescent Medicine, Division of General Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics. She joined the faculty in July 2005 following completion of a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine here at the University of Washington. During her training she completed an STD Fellowship with the Center for AIDS and STD and earned an MPH in Epidemiology. She received a BA from the University of Michigan and completed medical school, residency and served as Chief Resident in Pediatrics at the University of Louisville School of Medicine prior to coming to the University of Washington. Dr. Shafii’s research focuses on the development and assessment of primary and secondary interventions to reduce high-risk sexual behaviors in adolescents and the associated morbidity of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy. Her interests include early reproductive health education for youth and early adolescents and behavioral risk-reduction interventions for middle and older adolescents. Dr. Shafii also serves as Deputy Medical Director of the Public Health – Seattle & King County Sexually Transmitted Diseases Clinic.
Special Interests: Adolescent reproductive healthcare including sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancy; clinical manifestations of stress, anxiety and depression in adolescents; overweight and eating disorders in adolescents; and compliance issues in adolescents.
