{"id":3822,"date":"2020-09-04T10:00:22","date_gmt":"2020-09-04T17:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/?p=3822"},"modified":"2020-09-03T11:22:34","modified_gmt":"2020-09-03T18:22:34","slug":"black-lives-matter-artist-grant-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/2020\/09\/04\/black-lives-matter-artist-grant-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Lives Matter Artist Grant Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Black Lives Matter Artist Grant Program<\/h4>\n<p>Washington artists will have the opportunity to share their creative visions in response to the Black Lives Matter movement with help from a new grant program established by\u00a0<a class=\"link-color sbm-text link accessible-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jordanschnitzer.com\/about\/#:~:text=Schnitzer%20At%20age%2014%2C%20Jordan%20D.%20Schnitzer%20bought,contemporary%20prints%20and%20multiples%20in%20earnest%20in%201988.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jordan Schnitzer<\/a>\u00a0in partnership with\u00a0<a class=\"link-color sbm-text link accessible-link\" href=\"https:\/\/museum.wsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington State University\u2019s Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art<\/a>\u00a0(JSMA WSU).<\/p>\n<p><strong>The JSMA WSU Black Lives Matter Artist Grant Program will distribute $2,500 grants to 20 artists across the state of Washington<\/strong>\u00a0who will be asked to use their voices, experiences, and artistic expression to reflect on social justice efforts in response to systemic racism.\u00a0<em><strong>This grant is complemented by $50,000 grant programs at Jordan Schnitzer Museums of Art at Portland State University and the University of Oregon.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h5><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><em><strong>Artists residing throughout the state of Washington are encouraged to<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<strong>submit proposals<\/strong>\u00a0for new work or projects, or recently created work directly responding to: the current Black Lives Matter movement; marginalized communities; experiences with systemic racism and inequality; and artists whose work thematically connects to these experiences.\u00a0<em>Artists working in the mediums detailed below are invited to apply.<\/em><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Submission Process<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><em><strong>Interested artists should submit their applications no later than September 30, 2020.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0Selected works will be exhibited online at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art in fall 2020 leading to a gallery exhibition in winter 2021.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Contemporary artists that work in the following mediums are encouraged to apply:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Work that is primarily visual in nature, such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, crafts, photography, video, and film making.
