Through compelling exhibits, scholarship, education, public programs, and community engagement, MOHAI bridges the past, present, and future.<\/p>\n<p>Position Title: Temporary Digital Collections Specialist<br \/>\nReports to: Library Collections Manager<br \/>\nLocation: MOHAI Resource Center at Georgetown<br \/>\nClassification: Temporary, Non-Exempt, Part-time, Hourly<br \/>\nSchedule: Weekdays, approx. 15 hours per week<br \/>\nRate of Pay: $22-$24 per hour<br \/>\nEmployment Period: February-June, 2022 (exact start date flexible \u2013 maximum 300 hours total)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Position Description:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Temporary Digital Collections Specialist will participate in a maximum 300-hour 4Culture-funded project to inventory MOHAI\u2019s Sophie Frye Bass Library\u2019s digital materials, including entering descriptions into the Library\u2019s collection management system, identifying materials with highest preservation concerns, and suggesting materials to add to the online collection. This position reports to the Library Collections Manager and is a member of the Collections Resources department.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Conduct an inventory of the Library\u2019s digital media materials, from born-digital collections items to digital copies of materials, identifying various types of files in a variety of locations and noting duplicates.<br \/>\n\u2022 Assess materials for immediate preservation concerns, based on condition and informational value.<br \/>\n\u2022 Generate basic metadata and catalog in collections database Proficio.<br \/>\n\u2022 Suggest items of high value to be added to MOHAI\u2019s online collection (https:\/\/digitalcollections.lib.washington.edu\/digital\/collection\/imlsmohai\/search), based on the Library\u2019s priority of telling stories of those under-represented in the historical narrative.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ensure that all interactions are culturally responsive, respectful, and based on a foundation of MOHAI\u2019s commitment to inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility.<br \/>\n\u2022 Other duties as assigned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Bachelor\u2019s degree or equivalent museum work experience. Position suitable for current information sciences student nearing graduation or recent graduate.<br \/>\n\u2022 Previous experience with digital collections required; demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in digital preservation preferred.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience analyzing materials for their content and assessing them based on pre-determined criteria.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience working collaboratively with colleagues.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.<br \/>\n\u2022 Good attention to detail in keeping track of workflow and in maintaining quality control.<br \/>\n\u2022 Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with library information systems or collections management databases preferred.<br \/>\n\u2022 Enthusiasm for MOHAI\u2019s exhibits, programs, and mission.<\/p>\n<p>Find yourself checking a lot of these boxes but doubting whether you should apply? Founded as the Seattle Historical Society in 1914, MOHAI began its collecting to tell the histories of the city\u2019s founding families and major industries. Since the 1990s, the curatorial team has refined the museum\u2019s collecting to tell more diverse and complete stories of our region.
