{"id":6520,"date":"2023-05-15T08:55:50","date_gmt":"2023-05-15T15:55:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/?p=6520"},"modified":"2023-05-15T08:55:50","modified_gmt":"2023-05-15T15:55:50","slug":"the-lisa-and-jerry-obrien-curatorial-fellowship-2023-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/advis104\/2023\/05\/15\/the-lisa-and-jerry-obrien-curatorial-fellowship-2023-24\/","title":{"rendered":"The Lisa and Jerry O\u2019Brien Curatorial Fellowship 2023-24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Lisa and Jerry O\u2019Brien Curatorial Fellowship 2023-24<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lisa and Jerry O\u2019Brien Curatorial Fellowship at the Weisman Art Museum, University of\u00a0Minnesota is offered to qualified persons wishing to enter the art museum field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goals<\/strong><br \/>\nTo provide intensive practical training for emerging professionals who are considering\u00a0entering the museum field;<br \/>\nTo provide highly competent assistance for projects at the Weisman, particularly in the\u00a0curatorial area;<br \/>\nTo provide incentive to enter the museum field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duties<\/strong><br \/>\nFellowship recipient will work full time on a twelve-month appointment starting September\u00a02023 at the Weisman Art Museum. The Senior Curator, who supervises this position, will\u00a0determine exact projects and duties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Award<\/strong><br \/>\nThe fellowship will award (pending funding) one candidate a $35,000 stipend for a twelve-month, full-time appointment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<\/strong><br \/>\nCandidates will have recently completed a B.A. or B.F.A. Majors in art history, art, cultural\u00a0studies, American studies, or related fields are preferred.<\/p>\n<p>Competitive candidates will have a strong knowledge of art history with emphasis on the\u00a0twentieth and twenty-first-centuries, particularly American art. Excellent research and writing\u00a0skills required. Excellent oral communication needed and ability to work collaboratively as well\u00a0as to work independently on research.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates who are strongly considering curatorial work as a profession are preferred.\u00a0Knowledge of museum practices or previous work, volunteer experience, or internships in art\u00a0museums not required but a plus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application:<\/strong><br \/>\nApplications should include a letter of interest, resume with detailed information on course of\u00a0study, any museum or gallery experience and contact for three references (at least one should\u00a0be an academic reference); writing sample (substantive course paper acceptable).
