Must be available all 3 weeks of camp (for dates &amp; times, see below).<br \/>\nCompensation: $26 \u2013 $27 per hour for 15 \u2013 35 hrs. per week; Not-benefits eligible<\/p>\n<p>Position Description:<br \/>\nThe Summer Camp Instructor develops and teaches BAM Summer Camps. The goal of BAM\u2019s camp programs is to actively engage youth in the exploration of art, craft, and design in a fun camp environment. This position works closely with the Education Coordinator and the Summer Camp Assistants to plan all aspects of BAM Summer Camps \u2013 including logistics, curriculum, classroom management, art projects, and other camp activities and games.<\/p>\n<p>All camp projects and art activities should relate to BAM\u2019s mission and exhibitions as much as possible, and should include gallery explorations throughout the Museum. The camp themes (listed below) have been chosen to reflect popular past camps and current exhibitions, but there is no set curriculum or prescribed projects. The instructor will have the freedom to create their own plan, projects, and daily schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The instructor is responsible for leading the Summer Camp program by engaging kids in art projects and other activities throughout the week. They must be able to communicate consistently and effectively with parents about camp activities and any concerns that arise.<\/p>\n<p>SUMMER CAMP SCHEDULE &amp; THEMES<br \/>\nJune 24 \u2013 28: Modern Art Masters (ages: entering 4th \u2013 6th grade), Full Day<br \/>\nAugust 5 \u2013 9: Little Artists (ages: pre-k, 4-6 years old), Half Day (mornings)<br \/>\nAugust 12 \u2013 16: Junior Sculptors (ages: entering 1st \u2013 3rd grade), Full Day<\/p>\n<p>DAILY SCHEDULE: All full day camps are 9am-3pm, with Instructor work hours as 8:30am-4pm. Half-day afternoons are 1-4pm, with Instructor work hours 12:30-4:30pm; and half-day mornings are 9am-12pm, with Instructor work hours 8:30am-12:30pm.<\/p>\n<p>RESPONSIBILITIES &amp; DUTIES<br \/>\nSummer Camp Program Planning<br \/>\n\u2022 Develop curriculum and art projects for all 3 weeks of summer camp that create opportunities for individual art-making and collaborative teamwork-based experiences.<br \/>\n\u2022 Relate themes and activities to BAM\u2019s mission and make connections to exhibitions when possible.<br \/>\n\u2022 Work cooperatively with the Education Coordinator to finalize camp logistics, projects, and schedule.<br \/>\n\u2022 Create supply list with attention to budget.<br \/>\n\u2022 Assist in interviewing and training Summer Camp Assistants, when possible.<\/p>\n<p>Summer Camp Teaching and Management<br \/>\n\u2022 Create a fun, focused, and safe environment for campers.<br \/>\n\u2022 Teach and facilitate art projects, games, and other fun camp activities.<br \/>\n\u2022 Communicate with parents about camp projects, events, and any concerns as they arise.<br \/>\n\u2022 Oversee the Summer Camp Assistants, as they assist with camp facilitation and communication.<br \/>\n\u2022 Communicate regularly with Education Coordinator about supply needs and issues.<br \/>\n\u2022 Create and send daily newsletter of camp activities to parents.<br \/>\n\u2022 Organize an end-of-camp art show every Friday for the last 30 mins. of camp.<\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS &amp; SKILLS: REQUIRED<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience working with youth audiences, preferably in an arts education or summer camp setting.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience with classroom management or groups in informal learning settings.<br \/>\n\u2022 Friendly, open attitude and passion for working with children.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and students.<br \/>\n\u2022 Strong organizational, planning, and time-managements skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Flexibility and problem-solving skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Excellent oral and written communication skills.<br \/>\n\u2022 Availability for pre-camp work and all 3 weeks of summer camp.<br \/>\n\u2022 Physical ability to perform job functions within reasonable accommodation standards.<br \/>\n\u2022 Clearance of criminal background check, including a fingerprint background check.<\/p>\n<p>QUALIFICATIONS &amp; SKILLS: DESIRED<br \/>\n\u2022 Bilingual fluency in English and another language desired.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience in education, studio art, craft, or design, art history, or related field or working towards an Associate\u2019s or Bachelor\u2019s in education, studio art, craft, or design, art history, or related field.<br \/>\n\u2022 Experience working with elementary school-aged children with various abilities.<\/p>\n<p>TO APPLY<br \/>\nPlease submit the following: 1) a brief cover letter focused on your experience creating an inclusive learning environment for children, 2) your r\u00e9sum\u00e9, and 3) 2-3 art project ideas for one of the camp themes listed.
