Silver Sprocket 2024). The event will be co-hosted by MELC student and artist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sensitive.cactus\/\">Amelia Ossorio<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Event Details<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Date: Friday, October 18, 2024<\/p>\n<p>Address: Denny Hall 211, UW Seattle<\/p>\n<p>Time: 1-3 PM PST<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<i>Oakland comics artist Yasmeen Abedifard explores shame, queerness, survival and her<\/i> <i>Persian roots in &#8216;When to Pick a Pomegranate.&#8217; Upon waking in a garden-like void, a disoriented<\/i><i> p<\/i><i>omegranate named Anar and a woman named Guli question their existence: Who are they?<\/i> <i>What is their purpose? Suddenly, a pair of divine hands plucks them from their quiet panic and<\/i> <i>launches them through a journey \u2014 one in which they are born and reborn, their souls<\/i> <i>interlinked but their relationship ever-changing. Thank you!\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>About Yasmeen Abedifard<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>Yasmeen Abedifard<\/i> <i>(b. 1996) is an Iranian-American, queer artist born in the San Francisco Bay<\/i><i> A<\/i><i>rea and is currently based in Oakland, CA, USA. She holds an MFA from Cornell University,<\/i> <i>where she received the Charles Baskerville Painting Award. Her work is centered around<\/i> <i>storytelling mediums, including comics, illustrations, and animation. She is currently teaching in<\/i> <i>the Comics BFA program at The California College of the Arts (CCA).<\/i><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>About Amelia Ossorio<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><i>A<\/i><i>melia Ossorio is an artist and UW student majoring in Middle East Studies with a concentration<\/i> <i>in Persian and is minoring in Art History. On Instagram, Amelia posts her original artwork and<\/i> <i>animations under the name<\/i> <i>@sensitive.cactus<\/i> <i>and has earned more than 10 million views and a<\/i> <i>following of nearly 60k. Amelia currently serves as the Director&#8217;s Assistant at the UW Center for<\/i> <i>Global Studies, and has also interned at the Seattle Art Museum as an Emerging Arts Leader<\/i> <i>within the PR &amp; Communications team.
