NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is the largest statewide grassroots organization dedicated solely to protecting reproductive rights. We work to ensure that Washington’s women have access to the full range of reproductive choices, including healthy childbearing, contraception, and safe, legal, and affordable abortion.

 

Paid Year-Long Internship Available for the 2007-08 School Year

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington is looking for responsible, dedicated, resolutely pro-choice students to fill the position of Students For Choice Campus Organizer.

Campus Organizer’s are essential in educating their fellow students about the importance of reproductive rights.

 

Responsibilities include:

1.       Running a Students For Choice Campus Group.

2.       Participating in at least two community/campus outreach events per month.

3.       Planning and implementing 1-2 campus-based events per school year.

4.       Participating in and recruiting students for NARAL Pro-Choice Washington events and campaigns.

5.       Participating in regular supervisory phone calls with NARAL staff.

6.       Finding a replacement at the end of the internship.

7.       Other duties as they may arise (For example, writing a letter to the editor or working with NARAL Pro-Choice Washington to help advance policy goals).

 

This internship last through the academic year and is done on your college campus. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required. Applicants must be comfortable working independently with regular (but long distance) supervision.

 

Internships with NARAL Pro-Choice Washington let you build your resume while gaining valuable experience. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington will work with your school to ensure academic credit where available.

NARAL offers a monthly stipend of $100.

 

 

 

Students for Choice High School Internship

Available: 2007-08 School Year

Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator

Hours: 3-5 hours per week

Compensation: $5/hour stipend

 

NARAL Pro-Choice Washington's Students for Choice High School Internship program is committed to engaging teens as an active part of the Pro-Choice movement.  We strive to do this by teaching teens issues related to Reproductive Freedom, and then offering them opportunities for pro-choice activism.    

 

Intern responsibilities:

-Students for Choice Teen Interns will attend monthly workshops at NARAL where they will learn the basic principles of the Pro-Choice movement and the skills of community organizing.

 

-The students will then be able to apply their learning to practical activities through service in the NARAL Office, at NARAL events, and in their own communities.  Service opportunities will be offered weekly with the expectation that students will engage in at least 4 service activities a month. 

 

-In addition, students will be required to recruit peers to attend monthly workshops or to participate in service opportunities.

 

-Students will be provided with and expected to read news articles relating to the current political landscape and choice issues.

 

Administrative Assistant Internship

Reports to: Director of Administration 

Available: Winter 2008

Hours: Minimum of 10 hours per week, flexible schedule M-F 9am – 5pm.

Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary

The Administrative Assistant Intern will be responsible for efficient maintenance of the NARAL Pro-Choice Washington office space, database management, and other clerical work.  This position will give the intern hands-on experience with the daily business of a small non-profit organization.

 

Primary Responsibilities

·        Track donations, maintain up to date records

·        Assist with database maintenance, input of pledges, make address corrections, and work with administrative team to improve coding system.

·        Organize and maintain the office and the storerooms in an efficient and functional manner.

·        Assist with ordering office supplies

·        Answer phones and direct calls appropriately

·        Clerical

·        Assist Director of Administration as needed

Development Intern

Reports to: Director of Communications

Available: January through March 2008 minimum; however, the ideal candidate will be available until June 2008.

Hours: Minimum of 10 hours per week, flexible schedule M-F 9am – 5pm.

Compensation: This position is unpaid. NARAL Pro-Choice Washington will help secure academic credit if applicable.

 

Summary

Intern position will directly assist Development Associate with all development related activities from fundraiser planning and implementation to donor research and communications.  

 

Primary Responsibilities

·        Assisting with al elements of planning and implementing 3 seperate fundraising events. 

·        Database management

·        Letter writing and editing (mail solicitations, correspondence, donor outreach, fundraising emails)

·        Donor research

·        Assist with design of all fundraising event materials

·        Respond to and track people who RSVP for fundraising events

·        Other tasks as necessary. 

 

Qualifications

  • Strong personal commitment to a woman’s right to choose
  • Computer skills including PageMaker, Photoshop, Access as well as Word and Excel requested
  • Willingness to and comfort calling strangers and being persistent
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and a great sense of humor


 

 

Position Title: Field Intern

Reports to: Field Coordinator

Available: Beginning January 2008.  The ideal applicant will be available until June 2008; however, a minimum commitment would last until March. 

Hours: 15 hours per week, at least 2 evenings per week required.

Compensation: $350/month stipend

 

Summary:

The intern will be working with the Field Coordinator to mobilize our supporters in targeted districts (called Choice Action Teams), support the event planning and implementation of our annual Lobby Day and Run for Your Rights events,  and support all other functions of NARAL's field work as needed. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

·        Call both NARAL supporters and other community members to educate them about our work and recruit supporters for our legislative priorities.

·        Recruitment phone calls encouraging individuals to become involved at a grassroots level and for our lobby day.

·        Assist in all aspects of planning and preparation for Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice Lobby Day in Olympia January 28th.

·        Intern will be expected to work the day of Lobby Day, January 28th 

·        Call CAT members to invite them to meetings.

·        Assist in all aspects of planning and preparation for Run for Your Rights in the spring.

·         Other tasks as needed.

 

Qualifications

·         Ability to manage Outlook email system and Microsoft Word and Excel

·         Good oral and written communication skills

·         Must be detail oriented/organized

·         Commitment to the protection of the fundamental right to choose a safe and legal  abortion and a full range of reproductive choices
