The earth has the same size as it was 4,500 million years ago. However, our world today is increasingly getting smaller because of rapid development in transportations and communications. In the era of globalization, Thailand, similar to many small developing countries, has gradually lost many aspects in its cultural identity. Thai culture tends toward the delicate and long-time process of compromise inherent in the identity of Thai people through a process of assimilation, integration, and co-existence of the dominant Thai culture with various sub-cultures. Although modern social conditions are not the major signifiers of the nation's genuine identity, the prevalence of modern popular culture and derivative lifestyles has made the task of identity-building a much more complicated process.
