In early 2000 the University of Washington's Genome center led by Dr. Maynard Olson joined the C58 genome project with the goal of finishing the C58 sequence. A grant was submitted to the National Science Foundation during July of 2000 by Drs. Olson, Nester and Milton Gordon of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Washington. This grant was funded in March of 2001.
Fortuitously, Dr. Joao Setubal from the Bioinformatics laboratory at the Institute of Computing at the University of Campinas in Brazil agreed to join the project as the bioinformatics lead in January of 2001. At that time Dr. Setubal was on sabbatical in the Department of Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Washington working with Dr. Phil Green.
We have been fortunate to have the assistance of many talented researchers and support staff on this project. This project could not have been completed without the assistance of each of these many individuals and we would like to thank them all for their support. Please take a moment to look at our list of collaborators in recognition of their work.
At this time we have completed the genome sequence and associated annotation of the data. We are currently working to analyse these data and hope to submit a manuscript prior to the end on the year.
