Each year, we ask the UW seniors to pick their favorite professor and this year the Class of 2010 chose Law, Societies & Justice Professor Jonathan Wender. On Thursday, May 20 he’ll deliver Who Gets the Last Word, which can only be described as a year-end presentation unlike any other.
Here’s a quick video we pieced together introducing Professor Wender to the senior class. The Last Word presentation is May 20 at 6 p.m. in Kane 110.

For nearly 40 years, Husky coaches traveled across the state to meet with fans of all ages. This, of course, was known as Coaches Tour and it was a staple of the spring sports season. But a new generation of UW coaches has a new vision, and Tuesday, May 11 marked the beginning of an exciting new era.

The Husky Union Building (HUB) will close its doors July 1 to begin a two-year renovation. What’s your favorite HUB memory?
“I saw a sneak preview of American Pie with hundreds of other students in a sold-out show at the HUB movie theater. I must have missed half the lines in the movie because everyone was laughing so hard. It remains one of my best moviegoing experiences ever.”
“Coffee dates at the HUB—one of them became by husband!”
“The year was 1963—November. I had just stepped into the quad from a class when a man shouted ‘President Kennedy’s been shot.’ I immediately turned around to head for the HUB. Not many had heard the news so I hurried in and went downstairs to get a good place in front of the TV. I got there just in time to hear Walter Cronkite announce President Kennedy’s death. Of course, we students were very upset and classes were cancelled the next day.”

The University Book Store is experimenting with digital textbooks for students. They’re trying to drive down prices for students looking to save money, which is a really great thing to hear. I remember paying $90 for a textbook that I hardly ever used—and that’s not even at the high-end of the price range. Some books run as high as $200 or more!

Dubbed “Friday Night Lights,” the annual Spring Football Game was played under the Husky Stadium lights for the very first time. An estimated crowd of 15,000 turned out despite a chilly night, and of course the UW Alumni Association had face painting, sign making and pictures with Harry the Husky.

Senior quarterback Jake Locker started the Huskies’ annual Spring Game on Friday, April 30, but it was freshman Nick Montana (above) who finished it with a bang. Montana, son of former Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, completed 21 of 34 passes for 156 yards and two scores, including a 2-yard pass to Luther Leonard with no time on the clock to give the Purple team a 14-13 victory.
Locker, the UW’s Heisman Trophy hopeful, was 3 of 7 for 15 yards, leading the White team to an early touchdown. He played just four series.
