See a travel medicine doctor before you explore the world

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

One of the most important things to do besides packing your bags for your upcoming trip abroad is to be aware of health advisories of your particular destination. Just last night I went to a meeting with my son who is going on a three week service trip to Nicaragua. We were fortunate that one of the parents is a doctor who pointed out that there are many elements to consider when deciding what immunizations and precautions to take before you leave.

Is there a rainy season? Will you be in a rural community? Where and how will food be prepared? The best advice is to check in with a doctor who specializes in travel health. We discovered a great article that we found in our inbox from uweek. Check out great resources and tips and you’re on your way to a great vacation.

UW Lecturers: Guatemala & Baltics

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

We’re always excited to receive commitments from UW professors to accompany our tours. The lectures and informal conversations that  happen throughout a tour, add an extra “value” and provide additional insights about a destination. Plus, you also have the opportunity to chat about current news at UW!

For 2011, we’re pleased to have two more professors participating in our program.

Guatemala: February 1 – 11, 2011

Professor Richard Furman

Changing Tides of History (Baltics): June 9 – 20

Professor Terje Leiren

How to get a good airline seat.

Have you ever found yourself uncomfortable, tired and to make matters worse, stuck in the middle seat on an airplane?

Did you think,  “How can I avoid this the next time I fly?” There is that magical 24-hour window before your flight departs, where many seats open up if you check in online. With a click of your mouse, you can change your original seat to one that was not available when you booked your trip.

I found a great article in the Seattle Times that gives us ‘coach’ travelers tips to secure the ‘best’ seat. Happy hunting!

UW Lecturer – Added to Egypt Tour

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Join UW Professor Donald Reid as he accompanies his third UW trip to Egypt.

I think Don and the Egyptologist’s personalities made this an “added value” experience. Don’s poetry readings were a special addition to his lectures. Dorothy Mann, UW Egypt Tour 2010

Pyramids, Sphinz, Luxor, Abu Simbel…all the ancient Egyptian sites are included in this whirlwind tour. Another reason why we selected this specific itinerary was the addtion of two cruises – one on the Nile River and another on Lake Nasser. The inclusion of the cruises makes this a wonderfully comprehensive adventure through Egypt.

This trip is bound to sell out so sign up soon! Click here for more trip details.

2nd China & Tibet Tour

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

It’s always very exciting for Susan and I to see where our travelers want to go and China is the current hot spot!

The trip departing October 6 quickly sold out so we have just added a second trip: September 30 – October 18.

You might want to check out the online photo album with pics taken on last year’s trip.
