Up, Up & Away…

December 15th, 2010 by Pauline Ranieri, UW Alumni Tours

Incredible…wow…indescribable…these are the words that popped to mind as I floated over the Cappadocia landscape in Turkey. Photographs just don’t do justice to how truly unique the landscape is. Then to see it from up above in a hot air balloon…it was magical!

Cappadocia, a region located in central Turkey, was created through the combination of volcanic eruptions, followed by years of wind and water erosion. Standing amongst the earthen pinnacles, I felt a sense of being in a land where fairytales just might be real – it was really unlike any other place I’d ever visited around the world.

Our Turkey’s Turquoise Coast tour (September 29 – October 13, 2011) has an optional four night extension to Cappadocia. Past travelers that have participated in this extension have returned exclaiming that the area should be added to the itinerary so that everyone would experience it. Now I know why. And if you go, a balloon ride is a must and well worth the extra expense.
