The second annual Washington Weekend was a tremendous success! Thanks to all those who returned to campus to take part!
We'll have an extensive album of photos from the weekend in the next few days. In the meantime, here's a few highlights:
Thursday -- UW seniors chose Dr. Stan Chernicoff to give the "Who Gets the Last Word" talk. His memorable send-off to seniors featured anecdotes from his years at UW and plenty of Twinkies!
Friday -- A sunny Red Square was filled with students, alumni and other visitors.

We have a free shuttle service today that will circle through campus. See the parking page for more information.
Be sure to pick up a coupon for 15% off at the University Book Store. These coupons are available at the WA Weekend information booths at Red Square and the HUB Lawn. They should also be available at many events as well as from the roaming WA Weekend ambassadors around campus. Have a question -- look for the ambassadors wearing purple shirts and a big "Ask Me" button!

It's a lovely afternoon at the UW and Washington Weekend is finally here! If you're planning to visit campus today there are some wonderful offerings -- here's a few highlights:
- Learn about New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina as Barbara Major, co-chair of the Bring New Orleans Back Commission, speaks at Kane Hall at 5:30 p.m.
- The Department of Communication hosts a series of special events this evening including a conversation with Husky Football Coach Tyrone Willingham.
- Talks with authors at UW Bothell and UW Tacoma.
- If you're lucky you already registered for the Who Gets the Last Word talk tonight with Stan Chernicoff. UW seniors picked Stan for what's sure to be an entertaining lecture. This event is at capacity, but you're welcome to walk up to see if you can get a seat.

This year, for the first time, the Philosophy Department at the University of Washington will host a regional Ethics Bowl Competition. The Ethics Bowl is an intercollegiate competition in ethical analysis for teams of undergraduates. In advance of the competition, teams receive fifteen cases involving a host of problems in applied ethics, and attempt to develop the most defensible positions on what they take to be each case's most salient moral issue. During each match at the event, teams pair off, a moderator indicates the case, and poses a question about the case to the presenting team. After the team's ten minute presentation, the opposition then gives a five minute response. They may attempt to undermine the presenters' position, but may also simply press difficult or neglected questions. After a final five minute rebuttal by the original presenting team, a panel of three judges, typically composed of professional philosophers, has the chance to pose their own questions to the presenters.
