ALUW Executive Board Meeting, December 8, 2000

Faculty Senate resolution on collective bargaining
Diane is the ALUW representative to the Faculty Council on University
Relations. She reported to the Board on the status of librarians
in the enabling legislation regarding collective bargaining put forth by
the Faculty Senate.
Librarians are not in the faculty's resolution. At this point,
it is suggested that librarians have 3 options to respond to collective
1) Talk the issues through with Tom Bristow to raise his awareness
so that if enabling legislation happens, we need to be included.
2) Pass a resolution of our own agreeing with the spirit of the
faculty resolution. It would be a statement supporting the
faculty's resolution and
saying the we want to also be covered. This was Bob Holzworth's
suggestion (Chair of Fac Council on Faculty Affairs).
3) Write and pass our own resolution.
Chris will send a message to Andy Johnson, ALUW Legislative Committee
chair with some background on this issue.
Other campus players in this issue include: Mary Coney, Chair,
Faculty Senate and Dick Ludwig, Faculty Legislative Rep.
We had some discussion about the need to resolve the issue of
voting rights for librarians and serving on faculty councils.
Venta gave a Treasurer's report: We have a total of $4,948.08
Venta will send $200 to Diana Johnson to help pay for the LSA Holiday
We discussed the upcoming Fall meeting to be held Monday, Dec 11.
Business meeting will start at 3:15. Chris will introduce Board
members. Venta will give Treasurer's report. Chris will
introduce Andy Johnson who will introduce the program: " Bipartisan
Bills & Budgets: the Upcoming Legislative Session." Speakers:
Dick Thompson, UW Director of Government Relations; Tom Bristow, ALUW Lobbyist;
Jonathan Franklin, Asst Librarian for Library Services, UW Law Library
(to speak about UCITA)
We also decided to contribute $300 from ALUW to the Helen Johns Library
Staff Endowment in honor of Betty Bengtson's retirement.
