Notes:
1. Committee to review librarian salary compression
Discussion: Articles have been written about salary compression. Should committee review the literature? Perhaps they can review different methodologies for salary comprehension. Can committee do analysis with the information we have? Perhaps they should look at raw salary information.
Joe Keigel and Loise Richards volunteered to work on this committee. Maybe Stephanie Wright could chair or participate because she's good with crunching numbers. Committee will identify groups of people who need more help, but it can only serve in advisory capacity. Lisa will talk with Joe about a salary survey and drafting a committee charge.
Issue keeps coming back to compression. Committee will look for patterns of compression. Examine categories such as rank, whether supervised, length of time in system and being a librarian.
Other issues: Stipends, whether people get them and how much? Stipend policy: At Betsy's will. Most people getting stipends for specific reasons.
Should we talk to Charles before charging a committee? ALUW will do this. Once we get chair, we can then talk to Charles.
Lisa Oberg will talk to Matt about notes taken during small discussions on 18th .
Will we push for changes to compression issues if they come up? Rather than policy piece, perhaps an explanatory piece is better. Joe and Thom might have identified some of the background direction that they want to go in. ALUW will give librarians data and let members vote on it.
2. Website charge
3. Fall Program
Discussion: Important to have representatives from the faculty council offer a report.
Options:
4. Old business:
Bylaws changes: Lisa will talk to Carole about the changes.
Distinguished Librarian Award: ALUW will need to appoint committee. Cabinet talked about it and approved it.
Membership: Do we include law librarians and Center for Urban Horticulture Library?
Dues: Should we have a stronger campaign for legislative dues.
Legislative representative: Should we have him present on the legislative issues? LO will ask Eileen about this.
