Affiliated FacultyJohn Wilkerson (PhD, Rochester)(206) 543-8030 Associate Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for American Politics and Public Policy at the University of Washington. Professor Wilkerson specializes in legislative politics and health care policy and politics. He is currently a principal investigator on two National Science Foundation funded projects. The first, in collaboration with E. Scott Adler of the University of Colorado, is assembling a dataset of all public bills introduced in Congress for the 1946-2000 period, including detailed information about their content, sponsor and legislative progress. Professors Wilkerson and Adler and their students are using these data to test competing theories of legislative organization and to examine the determinants of legislative success. The second NSF project, in collaboration with Frank Baumgartner and Bryan Jones, is a five year Infrastructure grant awarded to the Center for American Politics and Public Policy to promote the development and dissemination of Policy Agendas Project data collections. The Analysis Tool is a recent product of these efforts. His web-based legislative simulation LEGSIM recently received the Best Educational Website Award of the American Political Science Association’s Information and Technology section. |
