Research Interest: Dr. Tian has been studying the molecular mechanisms regulating cardiac metabolism and energetics for about 20 years. She is immensely interested in bi-directional translational research between the bench and the bedside. Her research program is built to move from fundamental questions to rigorous evaluation of in vivo metabolism and physiology in cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Tian is building a multi-disciplinary research center on mitochondria and metabolism to focus on the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in a number of complex human diseases associated with aging, such as cardiovascular and neuro-degenerative diseases, obesity and diabetes, and cancer.

Research Interests: Superoxide flash genesis, effects of superoxide flash on local signaling, and superoxide flash as biomarker for cardiac dysfunction.
Biographical Summary: Dr. Wang won the 2007 Richard J. Bing Award for Young Investigators of ISHR (International Society for Heart Research), for discovery of the superoxide flash. He has been studying the intrinsic triggers/regulators of physiological mPTP opening and subsequent superoxide flash production. His research program seeks to demonstrate how physiological mPTP activity and ROS production impact local signaling. He works to establish the use of superoxide flash as novel indication of oxidative cardiac disorders, as well as novel criterion to evaluate the effectiveness of anti-oxidant treatments.
