Biographical Statement: Dr. Schenkman is a pediatric critical care physician and the Medical Director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Seattle Children's Hospital. He is internationally known in bioengineering and has several patents related to optical spectroscopy for assessing tissue oxygenation and mitochondrial function. He has a funded laboratory with a focus on translational research at the interface between critical care medicine and bioengineering.
