Working at the University of Washington Medical Center

UWMC anesthesia workstations are state-of-the-art technology. They include several trans-esophageal echo machines, multiple fiberoptic scopes, and automated record keepers. Teaching at UWMC is heavily emphasized, with learning opportunities existing on a daily basis.

Introduction by the Chief of Clinical Anesthesia Services

The University of Washington Medical Center is the largest of the four hospitals in the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology's practice.

A large portion of our residents' clinical time is spent at UWMC in the general operating room completing such subspecialty rotations as obstetrics, cardiothoracic, outpatient, acute pain, and regional anesthesia. The UWMC operating rooms consist of 19 O.R. suites, three outpatient suites, five labor rooms and delivery rooms, and ancillary locations in urology, radiation-oncology, radiology, and dental. Last year alone, 13,000 anesthetics were administered at UWMC.
