Dr. Sano received award

Yuko Sano, MD, Research Fellow, was selected as the first place winner of the American Academy of Pediatrics John J. Downes Resident Research Award, which will be presented at the Winter Meeting in April, 2008.

Dr. Souter Associate Director of HMC Research Center

Dr. Souter, medical co-director of Harborview's Neurocritical Care Center, has received the Organ Donation Individual Excellence Award from Life Center Northwest. The award recognizes Dr. Souter's many contributions to improving processes and patient care surrounding organ donations.

B. Raymond Fink Award for 2006

Dr. Lorri Lee was awarded the B. Raymond Fink Research Award for excellence in research for her work in 2005 entitled "A Novel Model of In Vivo Pig Posterior Optic Nerve Ischemia."

Success in ABA Examinations

Our graduating residents who took the written ABA examination in 2005 and in 2006 had a 100% first time pass rate. Full certification by the ABA is granted after passing the oral boards examination usually within the first few years of graduating. Our pass rates over the last 5 years have well exceeded the national average.

UW Simulation program accedited

The American College of Surgeons has accredited the UW's Institute for Surgical and Interventional Simulation (ISIS) as a level 1 comprehensive education institute. It's one of the first ACS-accredited institutes in the U.S. ISIS was showcased in Microsoft's "The Ten Show". Part 1 • Part 2

Predoctoral training at UW

Dr. Sam Sharar will serve as mentor to a predoctoral UW School of Medicine student for 1 year, as part of a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) to the UW. The topic is "A Pilot Study of Virtual Reality Analgesia for Cancer Pain in the Elderly".

Former resident now CEO

Steve Allen is CEO of Columbus Children’s Hospital, effective July 15, 2006. He was a UW Anesthesiology resident from July 1980 to June 1982 and chief resident his last year.

Dr. L. Charles “Chuck” Novak won the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) 3rd Annual "Excellence in Government Award" for exemplary contributions of the medical specialty of Anesthesiology and its practitioners and their patients.

IARS scientific exhibit wins 2nd place

Drs. Allan Goldman and Regina Wender won second place in the IARS scientific exhibit competition with the presentation  "The LMA-CTrach and the ASA Difficult Airway Algorithm".

Dr, Jardine receives grant to study SIDS

Dr. David Jardine, who specializes in pediatric anesthesiology, has received a NICHD R21 grant to identify biomarkers of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome using genomic technology.
