ASA Closed Claims
ASA Closed Claims The ASA Closed Claims project studies severe and potentially preventable perioperative patient complications, including perioperative cardiac arrest and visual loss, in order to improve anesthesia patient safety. [Project Website] »
Byers Lab
Byers Lab We are investigating peripheral neuro-inflammatory interactions, using trigeminal and dental injury models. Altered neuronal shape, cytochemistry and function occur for all parts of the sensory fibers. Central neuronal plasticity is also being recorded, especially related to opioid or neurotrophin mechanisms.
Deem Lab
Deem Lab The Deem lab is focused on the mechanisms of control of pulmonary blood flow and hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction, with an emphasis on red blood cell-circulatory interactions.

Neuroanesthesia Research

Neuroanesthesia research

The Division of Neuroanesthesia at Harborview Medical Center has an active clinical research program, including study of cerebral autoregulation and CO2 reactivity, applications of transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, intraocular pressure in the prone position, and cerebral hemodynamics and outcome in pediatric brain injury.

Sharar Lab: Virtual Reality Analgesia
ShararLab The Sharar lab investigates the efficacy, safety and mechanisms of virtual reality technology as a non- pharmacologic analgesic in both clinical and experimental pain settings.
Su Lab
Su Lab The Su Lab examines the signaling pathways leading to anesthetic-induced contraction or relaxation of vascular smooth muscle from different vascular beds.
Terman Lab
Terman Lab The Terman Lab studies spinal mechanisms of pain transmission and their modulation by repeated activation and analgesic drugs.
Whiplash Research Program
Whiplash Research Center University of Washington researchers have grant from the National Institutes of Health to study whiplash injuries from auto accidents. Dr. Dennis Turk of UW Anesthesiology is the principal investigator.
Harborview Anesthesiology Research Center
HARC H.A.R.C. focuses on improvement of perioperative medicine, pain management, and critical care. Seed funding is available through The Center is located at Harborview Medical Center, the Level 1 trauma center in Washington State.
Fibromyalgia Research Program
Whiplash Research Center University of Washington's Fibromyalgia Research Program is offering a comprehensive evaluation and treatment program for Fibromyalgia, supported by a grant from the National Institutes of Health.
