The Spinal Drug Delivery Research Group studies the mechanisms controlling drug distribution in CSF and spinal cord following epidural, intrathecal and systemic administration. Our long term goal is to improve selective spinal drug delivery by identifying the factors controlling drug distribution from the site of administration to the spinal cord target site. Issues of interest include barrier properties of the spinal meninges, drug metabolizing capability of the arachnoid mater, role of p-glycoprotein in the blood-brain-barrier, physico-chemical properties of drug molecules governing their spinal distribution, role of CSF motion in drug distribution, among others.
