Introduction / Vision

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Washington has a long history of leadership in academic anesthesia, innovating to provide outstanding outcome driven clinical care and pain therapies, as well as excellence in critical care and other academic areas.

Currently the department provides clinical anesthesiology care at 4 main hospital sites conveniently located near downtown Seattle: Harborview Medical Center (regional trauma center), Puget Sound Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Seattle Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center, and the University of Washington Medical Center.

Each hospital has distinctive areas of excellence and is world-renowned in its own right. Departmental research laboratories can be found in the UW Medicine Health Sciences building on the main UW campus, the South Lake Union campus, and within the new Neurosciences Research Institute near Harborview Hospital. With nationally / internationally recognized faculty, strong residency training, the resources of an outstanding research university, and the culturally sophisticated and beautiful city of Seattle, the setting for an outstanding anesthesiology care and discovery is hard to beat!
