Graduate Non-Matriculated Status

There are two different ways to take courses at the University of Washington without enrolling in a degree-seeking program if you have a Bachelor’s degree. The first is through UW Admissions as a post-baccalaureate or non-matriculated student. The second is through Graduate Admissions as a graduate non-matriculated (GNM) student.

Not all graduate programs admit students into Graduate Non-Matriculated (GNM) status. Occasionally the anthropology faculty will consider an application for GNM status. Such applications are dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Applications

Complete a Graduate Admissions GNM application and submit via the following web-site: https://www.grad.washington.edu/applForAdmiss/

As part of this application you will be asked to submit:

  • Statement of Purpose (one to two pages explaining how GNM status is helpful to you and the courses you intend to pursue)
  • Resume/Vita
  • Unofficial transcripts

Admissions

The Graduate Program Coordinator and other appropriate members of the faculty will review your file and consider you for admission to GNM status. You will be notified via e-mail regarding the outcome of your application.
