Graduation Ceremony 2007

On June 8, 2007, the Anthropology Graduation Ceremony took place at the Center for Urban Horticulture. Faculty, staff, and graduating students were brought together to celebrate major accomplishments.

Shedra Amy Snipes PhD 2006 (2nd from right) and Dawn Neill PhD 2007 (far right) with Prof. Kathleen O'Connor (front, center) and Snipes family members. Amy completed her dissertation entitled "Pesticides and Cortisol Increase in Mexican Migrant Farmworkers: A Bio-Cultural Assessment", and is now employed as a post-doc with the Center for Research on Minority Health the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. Dawn completed her dissertation entitled "The Effect of Urbanization on Parental Investment Decisions among Indo-Fijians" and will be a Lecturer for UW Anthropology for 2007-08.

Heather's MA thesis entitled "Identity Shift: A Cross-Generational Perspective of Deaf African-Americans in the Northwest" was chosen as the UW submission to the Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) and University Microfilms International (UMI) Distinguished Thesis Award Competition

Excellence in Teaching award winner Jerusha Achterberg MA 2006 (center, smiling) completed her thesis "Mathmatical Models of Tuberculosis: Applications and Bases"

Curtis Wienker Award winner Leif Wefferling BA 2007. Leif won the award for his archaeology paper entitled "The Historical Role of Anthropogenic Fire and Fire Suppression in the Pacific Northwest Landscape"
