Lisa Meierotto (PhC 2005, Washington)

Research Interests:
Politics of environmental conservation, environmental NGOs, transnational environmental advocacy, Northern/Southern dichotomies, Ecological Security.

"I am primarily interested in the politics of environmental conservation, especially in transnational contexts. My dissertation research examines the politics of wilderness conservation on the U.S.-Mexico Border, and the tensions existing between a Homeland Security doctrine and the preservation of a Wildlife Refuge. Previous (and ongoing) research looks at the politics of international environmental conservation projects in Greece, exploring the role of Greece in a North-South Dichotomy with northern Europe. My MA research analyzed the advocacy efforts both for and against a dam in Mali, and critiques the role of northern-based environmental advocacy organizations. While geographically dispersed, all of my research projects highlight my interest in the study of power differentiations in environmental struggles."
