Graduate Non-Matriculated Status

There are a couple of different ways to take courses at the University of Washington without enrolling in a degree-seeking program if you have a Bachelor’s degree. The first is through UW Admissions as a post-baccalaureate or non-matriculated student. The second is through Graduate Admissions as a graduate non-matriculated (GNM) student.

To learn more about GNM status, please see the Graduate School website.

Not all graduate programs admit students into Graduate Non-Matriculated (GNM) status. Occasionally the anthropology faculty will consider an application for GNM status. Such applications are dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

If you wish to be considered for GNM status, you will need to take the following applications steps.

Applications
Complete a Graduate Admissions GNM application and submit through the followng web-site: https://www.grad.washington.edu/applForAdmiss/

As part of this application you will be asked to submit the following:

  • Statement of Purpose (one to two pages explaining how GNM status is helpful to you and the courses you intend to pursue)
  • Resume/Vita
  • Upload unofficial transcripts
  • Pay a fee

If you have any quesitons, please contact the Graduate Program Assistant at 206-685-1562, or by e-mail at gradanth@uw.edu.

Admissions
The Graduate Program Coordinator and other appropriate members of the faculty will review your file and consider you for admission to GNM status. You will be notified via e-mail regarding the outcome of your application.
