Several
components must be
installed in your computer to run the online demo of Spot. The installation
process will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Please contact us
if you need support.
(Note: Unfortunately,
the current version of Spot works on PC only)
>Step
1: Install Java 1.4 on your machine.
Test:
It might already
be installed on your machine; in this case, the panel above should display
"Java is installed, please go to Step 2 now." Otherwise,
you have to install Java.
>Step
2: Download and install java3D.
The link to download
it is: http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/3D/download.html.
You will have to choose a format; select the "Run time for
JRE" .
You should try the OpenGL version first. If you have
display troubles when Spot is running, or if the program crashes when
launching, you might try the DirectX version.
Follow the installing procedure.
Close all the windows
of your brownser and go back to this page, the test panel below should
display the message"Java3D installed, please go to Step 3".
Test:
>Step
3: Install the VRML97 loader and the OpenMapTM class.
Download those libraries
from here: download
Libraries.
Extract the files
you have just downloaded and put them into the "ext" directory
of the java library. Normally, this should be under C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.0_01\lib\ext.
In that directory you should already have the following packages: j3daudio.jar,
j3dcore.jar, j3dutils.jar and vecmath.jar. Copy the decompressed files
in this folder. If you totally exit your brownser and go back to this
page, the label below should diplay the message "Congratulation!
You can now run Spot."
Test:
Why do I
need to install those libraries ?
In order to view
standards VRMl model you will need the vrml97 loader package. To calculate
the sun position, Spot requires installation of a special library called
"openmap.jar" provided by openmap.
Step 4:
Smile!
You are now ready to run
Spot demo!
