OVERVIEW

The Department of Architecture offers courses and programs designed for students and professionals who are not enrolled in a degree program.

THE HOUSE AS ARCHITECTURE

By examining a range of house styles (both modern and traditional), sizes, and costs, students gain an understanding of the architectural design process and how to work with a professional architect. Each quarter, students develop (or refine) a project that addresses their own needs and interests, based on ideas and information gained throughout the course. Individuals may start the series of courses any quarter.

Although some people have found the course helpful in assessing their interest in studing architecture, this program does not prepare participants to become architects.

This program is administered by UW Extension. Click here for more information on The House as Architecture.

SUMMER PROGRAM — INTRODUCTION TO ARCHITECTURE (ARCH 100)

Introduction to Architecture is a first course in architecture for people contemplating architecture as a field of study or as a career. In this program people of various backgrounds and ages, undergraduate students contemplating a major in architecture, and people with degrees in other fields considering graduate study in architecture can learn more about the field and the experience of design education. Introduction to architecture is an intensive 9-week summer program held on the University of Washington campus.
