Training

In the classroom you will read about many leadership techniques and apply them in both written and verbal examples. Outside of the classroom, UW Army ROTC Training consists of three major types:

  • Physical Training (PT)
  • Leadership Labs (LLABS)
  • Field Training Exercises (FTX)

Physical Training is 2 times a week for Freshmen and Sophomores or 3 times a week for Juniors and Seniors. This is when the Battalion comes together to get a good workout and get to know your fellow students. Juniors will typically lead the PT Session while Seniors evaluate their leadership and mentor them in how to improve performance.

Leadership Labs are once a week and conducted in Tactical Uniform. The point of these Labs is to teach small team leadership and time-management through hands-on practice. The Seniors will break the Battalion down into Squad sized elements and Juniors or Sophomores will be placed in charge. Again, the Seniors will plan and conduct the training, then evaluate the leaders on their techniques.

Field Training Exercises are typically once per quarter and allow the entire Battalion to simulate a field environment and conduct major leadership training and evaluations. Because of our close proximity to Fort Lewis, we have the opportunity to train on the same kind of grounds that Cadets use during the summer between their Junior and Senior years at their Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC).
