In Memoriam

Frank Edward Strycharski Jr. was born on August 23, 1954 in Elmhurst, New Jersey. Frank was the youngest of three sons born into a close-knit family. Frank’s family eventually settled in Bremerton, Washington after living in several locations on both coasts of the country.
Frank attended Central Kitsap High School where he was a Varsity Athlete in two sports, football and wrestling. In football, Frank rose to become the Defensive Captain for the Cougars. In wrestling, he stayed in the heavyweight category by drinking several gallons of water to make his requisite weight. Frank became a champion wrestler advancing in the State competition to second place.
Following High School graduation in 1973, Frank enlisted in the Air Force. He served in Inventory Management for 21 years. His honorable service took him around the world. He deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm; was stationed in Turkey, Alaska and California. Frank’s outstanding performance enabled him to ascend to and retire at the rank of Technical Sergeant. His military service is recognized by numerous military decorations and includes the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters.
Frank joined the University of Washington’s Military Science Department as our Logistics Technician in 2003. Frank was the epitome of what is best in our department. His standard of excellence emphasized people first and reflected our Army Values and culture. His foresight, resourcefulness, and professional competence established an environment conducive to success for our young men and women who chose to study at our great University. He was an exceptional man with initiative, judgment, and the ability to superbly mentor our future leaders.
In April of this year Frank remarried Janeen, his high school sweetheart.
Frank and his father had a special bond together as they shared the same birthday- August 23. Coincidentally, they also passed away on the same day, November 30, exactly one year apart.
Frank is survived by his wife, Janeen, his 28 year old son, Frank Jr., who lives in Arizona, and his two older brothers, Gene and Jim Strycharski, and their families.
We will always appreciate Frank’s dedication and will miss him greatly.
