Closed Claims Project and Its Registries photo montage

Other Projects

The Anesthesia Closed Claims Project and its Registries are scientific studies of adverse anesthetic outcomes. The Anesthesia Closed Claims Project and its Registries are collaborative, multidisciplinary projects that work to identify safety concerns in anesthesia, patterns of injury, and develop strategies for prevention in order to improve patient safety.

The initiative consists of the Anesthesia Closed Claims Project and its attendant Registries, and the Anesthesia Awareness Registry. The project also includes four closed registries, the Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Death and Near Miss Registry, the Neurologic Injury after Non-Supine Shoulder Surgery (NINS) Registry, the Postoperative Visual Loss Registry (POVL), and the Pediatric Perioperative Cardiac Arrest (POCA) Registry.

We recently completed a pilot Shared Decision-Making Project which was implemented for orthopaedic surgery procedures at University of Washington Medicine.

Incorporating what we learned from that project, we implemented a pilot Shared Decision-Making Project in the pre-anesthesia clinic at University of Washington Medicine.
