This study used the ASA Closed Claims Project database and the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) to compare the rate of claims for trauma anesthesia care to national trauma surgery data. The ASA Closed Claims Project database was also used to evaluate trauma anesthesia malpractice claims compared to non-trauma surgical anesthesia claims. The risk of liability among inpatients presenting for trauma anesthesia care was not increased. Anesthesia providers should not let fear of increased medicolegal liability be a barrier to participating in multidisciplinary trauma care
