Support the Department
For many decades the Department of Asian Languages and Literature has enjoyed
an international reputation for its teaching and research in the languages, literatures,
and cultures of Asia. At the same time, through education and outreach the department
has served the diverse communities in the State of Washington generally and in
the Puget Sound region specifically. In some cases this has taken the form of
introducing students to Asia, while in other cases it has meant reconnecting
them with their cultural and linguistic heritage.
In the past, the department has been fortunate to receive several endowments
and gifts that have helped to maintain and enhance its activities within the
University and the community at large. Your support will help the department
continue to carry out this important mission in the decades to come.
The department is currently undertaking a capital campaign to raise funds in
support of certain critical endeavors. These include graduate and undergraduate
scholarships to attract and retain the highest caliber of student, funds to
support special events such as campus visits by distinguished scholars, and
an endowment
that will continue to sustain the department's indispensable activities
well into the future.
Please consider making
a donation to one of these existing
funds.
If you are interested in exploring other ways of supporting the
department, whether through targeted donations or through non-economic means,
please contact
the chair of the development committee, Professor
Michael C. Shapiro. Targeted donations
could include anything from supporting book funds to endowing a named professorial
chair. We welcome offers of any type of support from our friends and alumni.
