Announcements

Scott Swaner is visiting the department this year as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Korean Studies. In addition to pursuing his own research in modern Korean poetry, Dr. Swaner will be teaching ASIAN 207 "Many Koreas: 20th-Century Literature and Cultural Construction" in Winter Quarter.

Flin Purnama recently joined the department as a lecturer in Indonesian. Mr. Purnama teaches elementary, intermediate, and advanced Indonesian.

Recently Published: Prof. Heidi Pauwels' In Praise of Holy Men: Hagiographic Poems by and about Hariram Vyas (Groningen, Netherlands: Egbert Forsten, 2002), which focuses on the North Indian bhakti, or devotional, movement of Hinduism.

2004 Markus Lecture

The speaker for the 2004 Andrew J. Markus Memorial Lecture will be David McCann, Professor of Korean literature at Harvard University. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, 12 May 2004 from 8:00 p.m. in the Walker-Ames Room of Kane Hall. Please join us for this major departmental event. There will be a reception following the lecture.
