Add Codes & Wait Lists

The Basics for any Asian L&L class offering:

  • A student who does not attend the first three consecutive days of a class may be dropped.
  • A student may be dropped or placed in a different class level at the instructor's discretion if the student is not appropriate for the class.
  • ACCESS Program students' forms cannot be signed until the third day of the quarter. This is dependent upon the availability of space and at the discretion of the instructor.
  • Non-matriculated students must obtain the signature of the instructor and then may bring the form to the department office for the administrative signature.
  • If you receive an add code, use it immediately; they are valid only for the quarter they are issued, and if not used within the time frame given to you by the instructor, they will be invalidated.

For all languages and levels not listed below, consult specific course information in the Time Schedule. Every section has specific instructions regarding entry codes, located in the comments section of the corresponding entry in the Time Schedule. The main office does not maintain or distribute add codes.

Ongoing

• Chinese

1) If you are currently enrolled in a Chinese class, ask your instructor about add codes.

2) If you have:

  • completed a Chinese Language Evaluation Questionnaire; AND
  • completed a subsequent interview with the Chinese language faculty; AND
  • obtained a class recommendation, then

... go to the instructor who conducted your interview one week before the first registration period of the quarter to request an add code (if space is available) for the recommended class.

3) Otherwise, go to the Chinese Placement Page.

We regret that non-matriculated students will not be considered for modern Chinese language classes at the first- through third-year level, with the exception of summer courses.

Autumn 2011

• Classical Chinese

To obtain an add code for Classical Chinese (CHIN 451), please follow the instructions.

• Hindi

It is not possible to begin the sequence in the Winter or Spring terms, since the preceding terms' courses are prerequisites. In other words, if you are interested in taking first-year Hindi at the UW, you must enroll in the Autumn quarter. If you miss registering for Autumn quarter you will have to wait till the start of the series in the following Academic Year, i.e., next Autumn.

Those who satisfy the prerequisites for a class (i.e., completing Hindi 311A in order to take Hindi 312A) can obtain an add code by emailing the instructor.

• Japanese

Each section is different. See the Time Schedule for instructions.

• Korean

All Korean courses require an entry code. See the Time Schedule for instructions.

• Urdu

Registration in Urdu 312A requires an entry code, which is available after completion of a survey: http://tinyurl.com/2pfrjk

• Vietnamese

Registration in all Vietnamese courses requires an entry code. Please follow the instructions in the Time Schedule.
