Advising
Students who have declared a major in Asian Languages and Literature have several resources available to them for academic and general advising.
The Academic Advisors serve as a first point of contact for administrative and informational questions. Their duties include processing the declaration of majors, verifying student credits, and maintaining records on the satisfaction of graduation requirements.

Prospective graduate students and prospective TAs should contact Abby Petty, Academic Counselor, for more information. She is located in 225 Gowen Hall (206-543-4997; abbyp@uw.edu).
Mentoring
Each student is also assigned an individual faculty mentor upon declaring a major in the department. Student and mentor arrange an initial meeting, and subsequent meetings are at the student's initiative. The mentoring system provides an opportunity for each major to have ongoing, face-to-face contact with a faculty member. Mentors are not necessarily specialists in the student's field of study; they are available for general advising on a student's academic experience and intellectual concerns.
Finally, each program has a program coordinator. The coordinators are available to provide program-specific information (future course offerings, study abroad options, etc.), and are responsible for authorizing any necessary course substitutions.
Interested and prospective students are encouraged to contact the Advisors for information on the major and for referrals to faculty members who might be available to discuss goals and plans.
