Each year the Department colloquium presents a series
lectures by its faculty members, graduate students,
and members of related faculties, through which the
University's current research in Asian languages and
literature is showcased.
This lectureship was established in memory of the
late Andrew L. Markus,
Associate Professor of Japanese Literature at the University
of Washington.
Once a year, the lectureship brings to the University
of Washington
distinguished scholars in the field of Asian Languages
and Literature.
The Distinguished Faculty Lecture is given by invitation once each autumn by a senior scholar, usually a member of the Department. This series aims to introduce topics of broad interest and appeal related to Asian languages and literature to students and faculty from across the university, alumni and other friends of the department, and the general public.
Each spring the department honors its graduates who receive BA, MA, and PhD degrees. The occasion is also used to confer departmental awards upon outstanding students and instructors.
