NEW: Assistant Academic Counselor

The Department of Asian Languages and Literature has an academic student employee position available in the Staff Assistant (SA) track (including Predoctoral Staff Associate I or II, depending upon completion of Master’s degree or attainment of PhC status) in Autumn through Spring quarters, 2008-2009.  The Graduate Student Staff Assistant will assist in undergraduate student advising in the Department of Asian Languages and Literature. Applications are due to Abby Petty by Monday, May 27th.


Teaching Assistant Positions for
Summer 2009 & Academic Year 2009-2010

The Department of Asian Languages and Literature announces the availability of teaching assistant positions for Summer Quarter 2008 and Academic Year 2008-2009 in the following language and literature programs:

Chinese - Japanese - Korean - Hindi - Sanskrit

All graduate students applying to, accepted by, or currently enrolled in the University of Washington are eligible to apply for teaching assistant positions. Strong preference is given to graduate students in the Department of Asian Languages and Literature. The deadline is January 15, 2009. Initial appointments will be announced by April 1. Alternate status offers will be announced by April 1. All appointments are subject to availability of funding. Department hiring will be carried out in conformity with the UW/UAW contract for Academic Student Employees.

By the time of appointment, students who are non-U.S. citizens, including permanent residents and immigrants, must demonstrate sufficient ability in English by 1) showing a passing score on the TOEFL (580) and on one of the TSE (55), SPEAK (230), or Speaking portion of the TOEFLiBT (28); or by 2) getting a passing grade in English 105. See the Graduate School Memorandum #15 for details on the appointment of TAs who are not US citizens.
