CLUE is the UW's free, late-night, multidisciplinary study center located in Mary Gates Hall. We offer drop-in tutoring, discussion sessions led by graduate and senior undergraduate students, as well as a writing center. Tutoring activities are organized by subject, including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Languages, Math, Physics, Statistics and more. We also host discussion sessions which correspond to specific UW courses and exam review sessions—these are a great way to prepare for mid-terms & finals. Bring materials associated with the assignment you are working on, including your test book, lab manual, lecture notes, old tests, calculator, periodic table...and lots of pens and pencils! We hope to see you soon!
CLUE is CLOSED until Oct 1st!
Thanks for a wonderful year Huskies and have a great summer! See you next Fall!
Please email us with any questions or concerns at email@example.com.

The CLUE Writing Center is an interdisciplinary, drop-in writing center open to all undergraduates.
|Drop-In Tutoring||Sun-Thurs||7pm to midnight||MGH 141|
|English Composition Portfolio Workshop||3/9, 3/10, 3/11, 3/12||5pm-6pm||MGH 234, Poplar 106, McCarty C, MGH 234|
We are open from 7pm to midnight every day except Friday and Saturday throughout the regular school year (Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters). No appointment is necessary—we're first come, first served—so arrive early and be prepared to wait if necessary!
If you are an undergraduate student at the UW, we are available to work with you. Our goal is to complement, but not replace, the relationships you have with your professors and advisers.
We can be of help during any stage in the writing process, including:
At the CLUE Writing Center, we have one goal in mind: to help you become a better writer. To that end, we believe that writing is a process. Even the most talented writers cannot sit down in a vacuum and produce a polished text on the first try. Whether you need help talking through ideas, honing an outline you've been working on, evaluating a draft mid-composition, or looking through a final draft—we're confident we can help you write more efficiently and effectively.
Our staff members have experience in a variety of disciplines, are published writers, and/or teach on campus. Each of our tutors have received significant training in composition, and many teach writing courses for undergraduates across the University. At the CLUE Writing Center, our tutors will work with you in private one-on-one sessions to help you become better at writing and expressing your thinking. You can expect them to be respectful, reflective, and educated readers of your writing and helpful teachers. They will work with you at every stage of the writing process and on any piece of writing, except for exams.
More information about our Writing Center is available on the Academic Support Programs website.
Exam reviews are different from Drop-In Tutoring and Discussion Sessions. Exam Reviews cover course material and strategies for specific tests. CLUE does not recommend that undergraduates "cram" the night before an exam—learning is a process best accomplished over time. Please utilize your time effectively throughout the quarter and then come to our exam review session prepared. This is a free service to all UW undergraduates.

We send out an inquiry and see if anyone is available, then connect you with that tutor.
Thank you for your interest and support of CLUE!
Below are links for lists of departmental tutors that you can investigate. You will need to contact the tutor directly or the specific department for questions.
You can also go to our page on other campus resources to find other centers on campus that provide tutoring services.

Yes, CLUE is a free service for all UW undergraduates. Undergraduate Academic Affairs and the New Student Enrollment and Orientation Fee support our program.
We are primarily located in Mary Gates Hall (MGH) Commons (our office is MGH 161B in the Center for Undergraduate Advising, Diversity, and Student Success). We also host activities in the HUB and in the residence halls.
Unless specified differently above, Evening Discussion and Review Sessions are held Sunday through Thursday from 6:30 to 8pm or 8 to 9:30 pm throughout Mary Gates Hall. Drop-in Tutoring for Chemistry, Math, Physics and the Writing Center are held from 7pm to midnight. Drop-in for other areas of study are also available. Please see the schedule above for more information.
Class Discussions provide an opportunity to delve more deeply into coursework by actively studying, reviewing, and discussing course topics and issues with your peers in a relaxed atmosphere outside of the traditional classroom. Click on the Discussion Sesssions tab above to see this quarter's schedule.
CLUE's drop-in tutoring service helps students explore course concepts and problems. In collaboration with CLUE Instructors, students uncover answers in one-on-one and small group settings. Please see the Drop-In Tutoring tab above to review this quarter's schedule. Tutoring takes place in the Mary Gates Hall First Floor Commons and students are invited to come and go as they please.
The CLUE Writing Center is an interdisciplinary, drop-in writing center open to all undergraduates. You can visit our Writing Center page to learn more about this program.
No—all help is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To make the best use of your time at CLUE, you should bring any relevant materials to the assignment(s) you are working on. This includes your textbook and lab manual, lecture notes, old tests, calculator, periodic table chart, and lots of pencils. Students visiting CLUE's Writing Center should be sure to bring the assignment prompt, readings for the assignment, and any previous drafts of the paper. All students should have in mind any specific questions they wish to ask of the Instructors. CLUE provides plenty of scratch paper and has copies of most introductory course textbooks you can borrow on a short-term basis. If you plan to work for an extended period, please be sure to have plenty of water with you and maybe a snack.
We are most interested in helping students deepen their knowledge throughout the quarter (as opposed to right before an exam). However, we do realize students have busy schedules and encourage them to attend CLUE whenever possible.
This is a free service to all UW undergraduates—visit the Exam Review Sessions tab above for this quarter's schedule.
CLUE Instructors are current and former graduate and experienced undergraduate students. These individuals often come to CLUE through recommendations from professors, teaching assistants, or peers. All CLUE Instructors maintain high grade point averages and have done exceptionally well in their areas of study. Our staff work part-time and many also tutor in other capacities on campus or privately. Their goal is not to simply provide answers. CLUE Instructors help students explore questions—and uncover answers collaboratively.
We're glad you are interested in helping other students. Please visit our Work With Us page to learn about the qualifications and how to apply to be a CLUE Instructor.
The Center for Learning and Undergraduate Enrichment (or CLUE) strives to further UW's mission to facilitate learning in small, comfortable environments. We have outlined our program's expectations and desired outcomes on our Mission page.
Please visit our Campus Resources page for links to other available UW resources.
Have you had a great experience at CLUE? Tell the world about it! To send us more extensive feedback, you can fill out a CLUE Review.
